HISTORY
Balıkesir Vocational School
began as Mining Program in 1989. Since 2011, the Mining Program has been a
Mining Technology program affiliated with the Department of Mining and Mineral
Extraction. The Mining Technology Program trains qualified technicians, including
workers, managers, and engineers, with sufficient knowledge in mineral
exploration, production, and enrichment. Our teaching staff, each expert in
their field, strives to cultivate graduates who are equipped with practical
experience in basic and engineering sciences, capable of designing processes,
conducting research, questioning, analyzing, and synthesizing, prioritizing
current and scientific knowledge, prioritizing human values, possessing
professional awareness, being open to communication, and contributing to their
country and society. We are proud to be a department that cares for and
establishes sincere relationships with our students, maintaining communication
with them even after graduation.

EMPLOYMENT AREAS
Students graduating from the
Mining Department can work in relevant public institutions and organizations,
as well as in private mining organizations such as coal, metal, and marble
enterprises, cement industries, ceramic industries, and metallurgical facilities.
DEGREE EARNED
Students who successfully
complete this program receive an associate degree in Mining Technology.
ADMITTANCE AND REGISTRATION
REQUIREMENTS
Admission to the Balıkesir
University Mining Technology Program is based on a centralized exam
administered by the Measurement, Selection, and Placement Center (ÖSYM).
Students are admitted to the department based on the TYT score, and the
department offers a two-year associate degree program.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AND
RULES
To graduate from the Mining
Technology Program, a student must have a GPA (transcript) of at least 2.00 out
of 4.00, pass the required courses in the curriculum, be successful in other
required studies, complete a total of 120 ECTS credits, and be approved for graduation
by the relevant board of directors.
EXAMS AND ASSESSMENT
Each student must register for
classes at the beginning of the semester and attend at least 70% of the classes
to be eligible for the final exam. Students will take at least one midterm exam
(midterm) and one final exam (final) for each course. All exams are graded out
of 100, with the midterm exam accounting for 40% and the final exam accounting
for 60%. A minimum score of 50 points is required on the final exam, with an
average of 45. Passing grades are converted to letter grades according to the
table. Students who receive a letter grade of AA, BA, BB, CB, or CC in a course
are considered to have passed that course. Grades DC and DD are conditionally
passing grades. Courses that receive a letter grade of FF and are considered
failing must be repeated in the first semester they are offered.
ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAMS WHERE INTER-DEPARTURE TRANSFER IS
AVAILABLE
The procedures and principles
to be followed for horizontal transfers between diploma programs within
Balıkesir Vocational School or to equivalent diploma programs at other higher
education institutions are regulated in the "Balıkesir University
Directive on Intra-Institutional and Inter-Institutional Horizontal
Transfers" (https://kms.kaysis.gov.tr/Home/Goster/61834).
Students wishing to transfer
using the central placement base score (Additional Article-1) must have a
central placement score (YKS) in the year of registration equal to or higher
than the base score of the programs to which they wish to transfer at our
university. Furthermore, they must not have previously availed themselves of
this right. The procedures and principles regarding the procedures are
regulated on the relevant website.
UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS
WHERE VERTICAL TRANSFER IS AVAILABLE FROM THE DEPARTMENT
Students wishing to continue
their education must Graduates have the opportunity to transfer to four-year
undergraduate programs at various universities, depending on their scores and
quota availability on the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) administered by the
Student Selection and Placement Center. The undergraduate programs eligible for
vertical transfer from the Mining Technology Program are as follows:
Mining Engineering, Mineral
Processing Engineering, Geological Engineering, and Materials and Metallurgical
Engineering.
