Advisory Board Meeting
Minute
The Mining and Mineral
Extraction Department, Mining Technology Program Advisory Board convened online
on October 16, 2025, at 12:00 PM. Attendees included Prof. Dr. Ferihan Göktepe,
Prof. Dr. İlhan Gülgönül, Assistant Professor Abdulkerim Pekin, Mining Engineer
Nursun Şirvancı, Process Consultant at Zenit Mining, Mining Engineer Birol
Güneş from Soma Tarhan Mining, Mining Engineer Fatih Dağlı, a former graduate
of Efemçukuru Tüprag Gold Mine, Mining Engineer Hüseyin Sarıca, a former
graduate of Kemalpaşa Marble Enterprise, Mining Engineer Tuncay Şahin, a former
graduate of Ermenek Cenne Mining, and Mining Technician Gediz Canbaz, who
worked at the Esan Balya lead mine. Course plans, stakeholder opinions, and
expectations from graduates were discussed at the meeting, and the following
decisions were made.
The 2025-2026 academic year
course plans were discussed, and although the coursework was quite intensive,
it was suggested that topics such as Sustainability and Simulation in Mining be
included in appropriate courses.
The importance of graduates
maintaining their connection with the university department after graduation,
establishing a graduate-student-stakeholder network, and providing active
feedback on internship and job opportunities was emphasized.
Practices that will support
students' business and industry-focused development were discussed. Experienced
industry professionals were invited to the university for events such as
conferences and seminars to explain the application to students. It was also
stated that it would be beneficial to support teaching with as many technical
trips as possible.
Participants also expressed
the opinion that holding similar meetings, both online and in-person, at
regular intervals would be beneficial.
